Majors Mutton and Baker led the Land Rangers group in Mimico in the mid 1960's. They were wonderful, dedicated leaders and we couldn't have asked for better role models than them. When we went camping, they were up before all us young girls, hair braided, dressed and ready to go before we'd even stuck our noses out of the tent. They taught us camping skills, cooking skills, songs, charity, and how to get along. They were wonderful women and I still often think of them. For selfish reasons, I'm sorry they've both Gone to Glory, but hope they truly have.

I have known Sybil since about 1960 or 1961 when I was sent as a cadet to the corps where she and Mary soldiered. In 1975 when I returned from serving in Korea, I was appointed to the Territorial Headquarters and got to know Sybil and Mary better and appreciate them as caring Christian ladies who were untiring in their service for God and The Salvation Army. We have remained friends through the years, and when Mary passed away, Sybil and I kept up the friendship. She will always have a special place in my heart. My deepest sympathy to the family who are left to mourn her passing, but also to celebrate for Promotion to Glory and her reunion with her Lord and Saviour and for dear friend Mary.

It was with sadness that I read of the Promotion to Glory of Sybil. My (Betty) memories of Sybil go back to when "Mutton & Baker" as they were known, we're appointed to DHQ in Winnipeg probably the summer of 1957. I was a candidate the summer of 1959 but due to family circumstancesI was extremely busy & having a difficult time getting my papers completed. Sybil made sure arrangements were made to give me the few hours I needed to get that job done! As the Lord would have it, they were transferred to Toronto while I was in College and they took me under their wing for that year and the following years while I was stationed in Toronto. How thrilled they were when they purchased their home on Waniska, something not done by too many officers in those days. We have remained in contact since then and I treasure a piece of tatting done by her hands. I am sure the Lord has said to Sybil "Well done though good and faithful servant. You may now rest in peace!". Thank you for the positive influence you have had on my life. Our condolences to the family and apologies for not sending this sooner but we have been away.

The news of the 'Promotion to Glory' of our dear Brigadier came as a shock to me. Praise God for her years of faithful service to God and to Lakeshore Community Church. She will be greatly missed.

Just saw her last Sunday at the Lakeshore Corps...I remember over 35 years ago coming to the training college teaching us cadets how to conduct a home league meeting .. Bless her Heart!

It was around this time last year that Brigadier Mutton visited my mom in her home just before my mom went into the Dorothey Ley Hospice. Your love for others and acts of kindness will not be forgotten Brigadier. Thank you for a life that was well lived and loved by many. Lori (Tell) Moore
