I was lucky enough to get to know David in the last few years through airplanes and flying. I took him flying in his Dad's Piper Cub on floats a few years ago. We flew up to Gravenhurst on Lake Muskoka and stopped at Boston Pizza. That day - as I think he always did - David had the excitement of a little kid - I let him fly the plane up and back - he was a natural - with a few instructions and some keen concentration on his part - he did great. Over the next couple of years I was "involved" with him purchasing his first airplane, getting him going with his instructor George Miller, and the planning of the runway that David built at the farm - now referred to as "Gallagher International". We had an annual ski fly-in this past weekend - with David's passing I didn't feel at all like flying. Sunday was an absolutely perfect day for ski flying - I managed to force myself into the airplane Sunday morning with my 14 year old son, who is also learning to fly. We had 25 airplanes at the ski fly-in on a beautiful day - I felt a little better afterwards because I thought about how David lived his life - doing a wide range of things with a wide range of people. I am extremely sad that he's gone but very glad that I knew him - he was a very genuine, class act. To Dave, Mary, Kirsten, Shaun, Laura, and the rest of the large extended family - he can never be replaced but definitely will not be forgotten.

David will always be remembered by his wonderful smile and his good nature. He had a close relationship with his family and younger cousins, who looked up to him.
